Patience Jonathan's $15m To Go Into TSA - EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is set to file an application in court seeking the total forfeitur $15,591,700, belonging to Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan.

The money is currently lodged in the Skye Bank account of four companies: Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited; Seagate Property Development & Investment Company Limited; Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited and Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited.

The EFCC had frozen the four accounts, which were linked to a former Special Adviser to the President on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa.

However, Jonathan’s wife had claimed in a sworn affidavit that the money in the four accounts belonged to her even though there is no paper evidence to establish a link between her and the companies.

She also urged the court to compel the EFCC to lift the restriction on the accounts.
In a sudden twist, however, the anti-graft agency arraigned the four companies on Thursday and the companies pleaded guilty to money laundering charges.
A senior EFCC official told one of our correspondents that the anti-graft agency would subsequently apply for the total forfeiture of the funds.

He said, “The four companies, in whose accounts the monies were lodged, have pleaded guilty to money laundering. We are therefore filing an application, seeking the complete and total forfeiture of the money to the Federal Government.

“The $15,591,700 should go (be deposited in) into the Treasury Single Account of the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

On Thursday, the four accused companies pleaded guilty to conspiring with Dudafa; a lawyer, Amajuoyi Briggs; and a banker, Adedamola Bolodeoku, to launder the sum of $15, 591,700 on or about November 13, 2013.

The EFCC, while arraigning the seven accused persons before a Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday, admitted to the court that the $15.6m were proceeds of theft.

Though Dudafa, Briggs and Bolodeoku pleaded not guilty to the amended 15 counts pressed against them by the EFCC, the four companies, charged along with them, owned up to committing the offence.
The guilty plea was entered on behalf of Pluto, Seagate, Trans Ocean and Avalon by one Friday Davies, Agbo Baro, Bioghowri Frederick and Taiwo Ebenezer, respectively.
The EFCC had since frozen the $15.6m found in the four companies’ accounts with Skye Bank Plc by placing a ‘No Debit Order’ on the four accounts.

Militants Bomb Another Pipeline In Delta

NDA, IPDI, Gbenekama accuse military of intimidating villagers

UGHELLI-A militant group, Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, NDGJM, in the early hours of Tuesday, blew up the Afiesere-Iwhrenene major delivery line to UPS/UQCC, operated by Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NDPC/Shorelines Petroleum in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The attack confirmed by a leader of the group, self-styled Gen. Aldo Agbalaja, came as the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, which ceased hostilities, last month, accused the military of harassing old men, women and innocent youths in the region under the guise of hunting for militants.

Meanwhile, the Ijaw People Development Initiative, IPDI, has warned that the Federal Government’s plan to continue to militarize the region and intimidate the people despite the fact that NDA and other dangerous militant groups had opted for dialogue will not make the region to forsake the Niger Delta struggle. Also, acting Secretary of the Gbaramatu Traditional Council, GTC, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, has cautioned against the continued militarization of the kingdom and other parts of the region, saying: “It is an ill wind that blows both the inhabitants of thee Niger Delta and the Federal Republic no good.” We’re not fools- Militants NDGJM in an electronic mail statement, said: “The Niger Delta is not a conquered territory and our people have never succumbed to intimidation before, rather we match force with the oppressor’s brutality. The Nigerian government should already know that the people of this part are not fools, who will not be able to see when they are being treated with disdain.”

Fulani Herdsmen Invade Golgolfa In Kaduna, Kill Two

Residents of Golgolfa village, Godogodo Chiefdom, in Jema’a Local Government Area, LGA, of Kaduna state weekend alleged that herdsmen invaded their community killing two persons while a six-year old child also died of gunshot wounds from previous attacks by herdsmen.

The community leaders also accused the police police of deserting the villages which were vulnerable to attacks but only patrol the highways with wailing sirens Kaduna State Police Command Spokesman, ASP Aliyu Usman confirmed the killings of the two men, but denied that Police had deserted the affected communities.

Speaking to Saturday Vanguard on grounds that his name would not be mentioned, a community leader from GolKofa said: “On Thursday afternoon, we heard gunshots from the fringe of the village. When we rushed there we discovered that two of our people have been shot to death.

They are: Taru Mamman, 60, father of 5 and grandfather and Batet Jonathan, 35, married with three children. Those who saw the attackers escaping said they were Fulani,” he said.

Meanwhile, six-year-old Ruth Daniel, a primary one pupil, from Ningon Gari, in Gwantu Village, also died from injuries she sustained after alleged armed herdsmen invaded the village and killed two on August 21st 2016.

According to a local leader in the community who chose to remain anonymous, “The night the attackers came, they shot at everywhere and the bullet hit the girl in the stomach. It affected her intestine and she was rushed to Kafanchan General Hospital.

“The Local Government Chairman said he would help, but no assistance came. Her parent sold off all their crops and everything the poor farmers could raise, but they could not raise enough for her treatment. So she died yesterday at the general hospital,” he said.

In his reaction, Kaduna State Police Spokesman, ASP Aliyu Usman said: “It is true and I can confirm that two people were killed in Golgofa. But it is not true that there is no police presence there. I have been in touch with Kafanchan Area Commander, and he has assured me that there are police vehicles in these villages. But we cannot be on every man’s farm. If you doubt me, go to the villages and find out by yourself.”

EFCC Driver And Policeman Burgle Badeh's Sealed Mansion

A driver in the employ of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nasiru Isa, has been arrested for allegedly breaking into one of the sealed mansions owned by the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh (retd.).

It will be recalled that the EFCC had, in January, sealed off over five landed properties belonging to Badeh before arraigning him on 10-count charge bordering on money laundering and theft.

The EFCC said in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, that the suspect belonged to a criminal syndicate that specialises in breaking into properties sealed off by the EFCC.

According to the anti-graft agency, a policeman identified as Corporal Aliyu Ismaila is also a member of the syndicate.

Other suspects include: Abubakar Jibrin, Abdulsalam Ado, Ibrahim Babangida, Reuben Dauda, Hassan Aliyu, Sani Yusuf and Murtala Mohammed.

The EFCC said on August 30, 2016, the suspects, including the armed policeman, subdued the security guard at the property and attempted to break into the main building but fled on sighting some EFCC operatives.

The statement read in part, “On August 30, 2016, operatives of the EFCC, as part of monitoring activities on the sealed property, had gone to the site to execute a search.

“However, members of the syndicate took to their heels on sighting the operatives of the anti-graft agency. A carpenter, Yakubu Muhammad, who was hired by the syndicate, was left behind and was subsequently arrested by the operatives.

“The carpenter, who has been cooperating with operatives, confessed that he was not in the know of the illicit activity, as he was only brought in by the syndicate to assist with the use of his carpentry tools to break into the property.”

According to the EFCC, investigations revealed that shortly after the property was sealed, some individuals moved about 12 bags believed to contain items linked to money laundering offence, into the property.

The statement added, “Investigations revealed that one of those in the know about the goods was the brains behind the scheming to steal them. The syndicate decided they would need to subdue the security man at the property, which would mean they would need to involve security personnel in the syndicate.

“Subsequently, Isa was contacted. To further beef up the security aspect of the crime, he also contacted his friend, Ismaila, who came for the ‘operation’ fully armed. In perpetrating the crime, Dauda had posed to be a senior official of the EFCC, while Jibrin posed as an Intelligence Police officer in the Inspector General’s office.

“However, on August 30, 2016, they were caught in the act of breaking into the property, having successfully overpowered the security guard at the entrance of the property.”

Nigerian Man & 6 US Citizens Sentenced To Prison For Online Fraud Schemes

GULFPORT, Miss. – Six U.S. citizens and a Nigerian national were sentenced Tuesday to federal prison for their roles in online fraud schemes that distributed more than $40 million in counterfeit checks using “mystery shopper” websites and work-from-home scams. The criminal enterprise was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Funso Hassan, 27, of Ibadan, Nigeria and Anthony Shane Jeffers, 44, of Maryville, Tennessee, were each sentenced to 10 years in prison. Ann Louise Franzen, 70, of Kiln, Mississippi; Gary Melvin Barnard, 64, of Palestine, Texas; Michele Gayle Fee, 55, of Stockton, California; Tanya Lynn Thomas, 52, of Turlock, California; and Shawn Ann White, 44, of Manteca, California, were each sentenced to five years in prison.

In addition to the prison sentences, U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr., of the Southern District of Mississippi sentenced each defendant to three years supervised release following completeion of their sentences. Restitution to the victims for all defendants will be determined at a later date. The sentences are the maximum statutory penalty for the charges to which the defendants pleaded.

"Financial crimes and identity theft have a devastating effect on the victims and our financial institutions,” said Special Agent in Charge of HSI New Orleans Raymond R. Parmer, Jr. “We will continue to aggressively investigate and bring to justice the criminal enterprises who perpetrate these financial crimes.”
Parmer is the Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans field office with responsibility for Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Tennessee.

According to court documents, Hassan and Jeffers admitted in their April 12 guilty pleas to conspiracy to commit identity theft and theft of government property along with use of mail and interstate facility to distribute proceeds of a racketeering activity. Franzen, Barnard, Fee, Thomas and White previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit identity theft and theft of government property.

All seven defendants were members of a large-scale international financial fraud conspiracy that included romance scams through online dating sites, check fraud, secret shopper schemes and personal assistant work-from-home schemes. Some of the defendants started as romance scam victims only later becoming knowing participants in the counterfeit check fraud. Victims were sent checks with mystery shopper and personal assistant instructions. The checks, which were counterfeit, would bounce after the victims transmited proceeds to various locations in the United States which were then layered for transmission to Nigeria. Victims then owed their banks the amount of checks and often hundreds of dollars in bank fees.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Annette Williams of the Southern District of Mississippi, Trial Attorney Conor Mulroe of the Criminal Division’s Organized Crime Gang Section and Senior Counsel Peter Roman of the Criminal Division’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section prosecuted the case.

Boys, Aged 7 & 10 Arrested In Cameroon For Raping & Killing 1-Year-Old Girl

Shocking! Two boys raped and killed a 1 year old girl in Kumbe Balindo

A very disturbing story is developing from Kumbe Balindo, Ndian Division in the South West region that two little boys, aged 7 and 10, have reportedly raped and killed a 1 year old girl. CIR sources in Mundemba, capital of Ndian Division reported that, after the act the two boys forced the girl into a pit toilet and then used a stick to hit her to death.

Even with the presentation of the two kids to the public earlier today by the forces of law and order, Cameroon Intelligence Report staff man, Cham Victor Bama quoted a traditional ruler of the area who opined that the young boys cannot get an Attention and are also not capable of destroying the late baby’s private as the medical reports indicated.

There are suggestions that someone is using the children to hide a ritual crime. The bad news is that the two boys have admitted throwing the little girl in the toilet and killing her whilst she was in there.

Police Charge Ex Kogi Governor, Audu’s Son With Armed Robbery

Gbenga Odogun, Lokoja

There was a mild drama and disbelief at the Chief Magistrates’ Court 11, Lokoja, Kogi State on Thursday when Mohammed, the eldest son of a former governor of Kogi State, the late Abubakar Mohammed Audu, was charged with armed robbery.

Mohammed was arrested on Wednesday night when he honoured the invitation of the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad at the “A” Division Office of the Nigeria Police Force in Lokoja and he was subsequently detained.

The police charged him to court on Thursday.

Apart from armed robbery, other charges in the First Information Report filed by the police against Mohammed were criminal conspiracy, causing mischief and grievous hurt as well as attempted culpable homicide, all contrary to sections 97 (1), 248, 327, 298 and 229 of the Penal Code.

In the said FIR, Mohammed’s uncle, Alhaji Yahaya Audu, who was the complainant in the case, alleged that he was attacked by some hoodlums in his home at Ogbonicha on August 30.

Yahaya said it was by sheer miracle that he escaped from his assailants, who, he said, were shooting sporadically during the attack.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Otowu Gabriel, told the court that though investigation into the matter was still ongoing, findings by the police linked Mohammed and others still at large with Yahaya’s attack.

The lead defence counsel, Mr. Okechukwu Ajunwa, however, contended that there was nothing in the charge that linked his client to the attack.

Ajuwa urged the court to admit his client to bail in line with the provision of Section 36 (5) of the constitution, and in view of the fact that the police were still investigating the case.

He assured the court that his client would neither abscond nor interfere with police investigation if granted bail.

He said his client was a prominent member of the society, who had no reason to abscond, pointing out that Mohammed was not arrested but he voluntarily went to the police station to honour their invitation.

In his response, the prosecutor said he did not wish to oppose the bail application but would allow the court to use its discretion.

After listening to the parties, the Chief Magistrate, Alhassan Hussain, admitted Mohammed to bail, with a directive that he must make himself available for every court session.

The court adjourned till September 29, 2016 for further proceedings in the matter.

8 In 10 Nigerian Women In Italy Are Sex Trafficking Victims

(ANSA) - Vatican City, September 7 - At least 80% of Nigerian women and girls arriving in Italy are sex trafficking victims, Vatican news agency Agenzia Fides reported Wednesday.
"Hundreds of thousands of people fall victim to human trafficking every year in Africa alone," Monsignor Ignatius Ayau Kaigama told an international conference against human trafficking organized by Christian Organisations Against Trafficking in Human Beings (COATNET) and Catholic charity Caritas in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
"Of the overall number of victims, 79% are sexually exploited and the majority are women," said Kaigama, who is the archbishop of the central Nigerian city of Jos and president of the Nigerian Bishops Conference.

"The remaining 21% are coerced into forced labor, and the majority of these are men". "In some parts of West Africa, the majority of trafficking victims are children under 18," he went on. "This conference must find a way to put an end to child labor in all its forms," the archbishop said.
He also called on the Nigerian government "to declare human trafficking a national disgrace, and to take urgent and long-lasting measures to address its root causes. This in light of recent reports that 80% of Nigerian girls that reach Italy, do so for reasons of sex trafficking".

Man Steals N214,000 Church Tithe In Lagos And He Gets 6 Month Jail Term

A 28-year-old man, Elochukwu Nnoruga, is to spend six months in jail for stealing N214, 000 tithe belonging to St Patrick Catholic Church, Idumaigbo, Lagos.

Magistrate Ade Adefulire of the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, who gave the sentence on Thursday, ruled that the convict would spend the six months in Ikoyi Prison and gave him no option of fine.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Nnoruga was arraigned on Aug. 17, on suspicion that he stole the amount from the Church’s tithe box.

Nnoruga promptly pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of theft.

In his judgment, the magistrate expressed disgust that people could steal from the house of God.

“It is a pity that people do not see the house of God as sacred anymore.

“This judgment should serve as a lesson to the public, if you choose crime instead of hard work, the hand of the law will always catch up with you.

“Nnoruga, you are hereby sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option of fine,” he declared.

The prosecutor, Mr Ben Ekundayo, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on Aug. 14, at about 2 p.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Idumaigbo, Lagos.

Ekundayo said that the convict stole N214, 000 from the tithe box after Church service.

He said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)

Pickpocketing Is More Lucrative Than Auto Engineering - Suspect

An 18 year old suspect arrested by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad(RRS) of Lagos State Police Command, has disclosed that he ran away from auto engineering to pickpocketing because it was more.

The suspect, Seun Jimoh, 18, from Ondo State was arrested on early hours on Tuesday, in Oshodi while in the act.

The suspect, who decked in brown jacket and trousers, and a hand bag like a business executive, before his arrest, had already stolen four mobile phones from unsuspecting commuters in an early morning rush in the area.

It was learnt that he was about to remove N18,000:00 from the pocket of a commuter during another bus stampede when he was caught.

Unknowingly to him, two of his victims were on the lookout for him after suspecting him for being in custody of their missing phones. While standing at Oshodi under Bridge, they spotted him removing money from the pocket of a passenger, Gbenga Odeniyi. At that point, his earlier victims, Onuh Austine and Onesimus Paul raised an alarm, which made Jimoh to promptly drop the money and take to his heels but RRS operatives close to the scene chased and caught him".

The operatives after listening to all the accusations requested the victims’ phone numbers which were dialled and they were found in Jimoh’s handbag.

While at the RRS's Headquarters, the suspect confessed to have stolen the two phones during a bus stampede.

In his confessional statement, he said: On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I am always in Oshodi pickpocketing. I stole an average of eight phones on Mondays and maybe like nine phones on Fridays. I don’t really get more than five phones on Wednesdays.

He added, " am an orphan. I was brought to Lagos by my uncle. He enlisted me in an auto – mobile workshop but I ran away from there to Mushin where I honed my skills in pickpocketing. All the phones that I stole, I sell them in Alaba Rago to some Hausas. They buy fairly used phones and materials from people. I have been in this business since 2013. I have never been caught or imprisoned before".

In his words, “nobody needs to train you on how to pickpocket. It is so easy and the idea came naturally to me. You can do it but you do the easy ones. I get to Oshodi by 6:30 a.m. and I leave after operations around 9:00 a.m.

I sell Nokia Microsoft N7, 000:00; Infinix Hot N8,000; Tecno Y series, N7,000 – N9,000 and small Samsung phones N4, 000:00”.

The RRS operatives later invited the owners of the two other phones found with Seun to collect them.

Our source disclosed that the Policemen are on the verge of arresting stolen phone buyers mentioned by the suspects, added that, one of the ways to stem cases of phone theft in the state is to pick-up the major buyers.

Confirming the arrest, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Superintendent of Police, SP Dolapo Badmus, re-assured people of Lagos, of maximum security in place in the state.

She added that the suspect has given information that would help track down his colleagues in the same trade as well as stolen phone buyers.

The suspect has been transferred to the Lagos State Taskforce on Environment for prosecution.

Man Impregnates His 14-Year-Old Daughter In Ekiti. What He Did Next Is Shocking

Residents of Emure in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State, are still in shock over the dastardly act of a 50-year-old man and native of the town from Ile onisa quarters, and simply identified as Williams who allegedly impregnated his 14-year old daughter (names withheld), and subsequently murdered her to cover up his crime.

Residents in the community told DAILY POST that Williams had some few months ago ended up putting his 14-year old daughter in the family way after series of alleged illicit affair with the poor girl. They added that recently, the girl began to develop a protruding stomach and no one was seen with her except her father.

Neigbhours who had been suspicious of the unholy rapport between father and daughter began to peddle rumours about the source of the girl’s pregnancy. Soon, the news was making the rounds among the villagers, gossips and rumour mongers that Williams had performed the ‘uncommon feat’ of impregnating his own daughter.

Moreso, that the community isn’t a complex one as relationships among residents are closely knitted: like the saying goes ‘bad news spreads like wild fire”; in no time, everyone began to point fingers at Williams whenever he passes on the streets, they were telling one another that he had put his own daughter in the family way.

Then the worst happened. According to Anike, a lady resident in the community, Williams woke up on Sunday (September 4) morning, summoned yet another uncommon courage, took his ‘expectant girl’ to his farm in Aba Iso area of the community, ended the whole shameful drama there, quietly dispatched the girl and her unborn baby into an early grave.

“We are sure Williams killed his pregnant girl so as to cover up his crime because the girl’s pregnancy was already becoming very conspicuous and everyone knew that it was her father who slept with her,” the lady said.

” It took us a while before we were able to apprehend Williams and drag him to the Oba’s palace, Oba Emmanuel Adebayo who is himself a retired Police Commissioner.

The monarch has since handed him over to the Civil Defence Corps who have since taken up the matter,” another resident, Omodele, said.

DSS Smashes Kidnap Gangs, Nabs Boko Haram IED Specialist- Daily Trust

The Department of State Services (DSS) yesterday said it had smashed several kidnap gangs and terrorist elements in recent operations across the country.
A statement from an official of DSS, Tony Opuiyo, said on August 22, one Samuel Asuquo, a kidnap kingpin, was arrested at Nasarawa Bakoko village in Cross River State.

He said Asuquo was the mastermind of the kidnap of three Australian staff of Lafarge Cement Company, for which his gang received a ransom of N150million.
He added that on August 30, Bamaiyi Mustapha, Aminu Isa and Hassan Shehu, members of a kidnap gang operating around the Abuja-Kaduna axis, were arrested in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Opuiyo said the gang had earlier kidnapped five Igbo women and collected N13million as ransom, noting that they were arrested while planning a high profile kidnap in Abuja.

Opuiyo said the service also carried out another operation at Tamburawa village along Kano-Zaria Expressway, Kano State, where Alhassan Musa and Ado Yusuf, members of a kidnap/armed robbery syndicate operating from Falgore forest in Doguwa LGA, Kano State, were apprehended.

He also said in response to the regrouping of Boko Haram elements in Kano State, the service in concert with the military, apprehended two high profile members of the sect: Ibrahim Ustaz Abubakar and Idris Audu.
He said Audu is an IED specialist, who “had already perfected plans to seek recruitment into the Nigerian Army before his arrest.”

The gang masterminded kidnapping incidents, including the abduction of Uche Ikonne, an American citizen.

He also said the service had arrested one Abbas Mohammed at Asokoro, Abuja, after sending several threat messages to the Ukranian Ambassador to Nigeria.

Opuiyo further said one Izuagie Mohammed was arrested in Benin City, Edo State on 24th August, 2016, for impersonating the Accountant General of the Federation.

He said on August 28,Taiye Alade and Ajoke Kolawole were also arrested at Fabian Hotel, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The duo allegedly cloned the GSM number of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, and were using it to defraud his associates.

Nigerian Military: Some Officers Selling Weapons To Boko Haram - AP

Nigerian military: Some officers selling arms to Boko Haram
BY MICHELLE FAUL
SEP. 4, 2016 8:50 AM EDT

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria's military says some officers are selling arms and ammunition to Boko Haram, indicating the corruption bedeviling the country's fight against the Islamic extremists continues despite government efforts to halt graft.

The admission comes three weeks after the Nigerian army said a military tribunal is trying 16 officers and troops accused of offenses related to the fight against Boko Haram, including the theft and sale of ammunition.

Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor, the theater commander in northeastern Nigeria, told a news conference on Thursday that military authorities have confirmed that some soldiers were selling arms and ammunition to Boko Haram. He called it a betrayal of the Nigerian people. He gave no more details.

President Muhammadu Buhari has blamed corruption for the deaths of thousands in the seven-year Islamic uprising that has killed more than 20,000. Children who escaped Boko Haram are dying of starvation in refugee camps in the northeast, where the government is investigating the alleged theft of food aid.

A soldier on the frontline of the fight told The Associated Press that his brigade commander is among officers standing trial at the court-martial in this northeastern city, which is being held in secret. He said the army is investigating what happened to 21 anti-aircraft guns assigned this year to his artillery brigade. He said they only received one gun. The soldier spoke on condition of anonymity because he feared he would lose his job.

In addition, a slew of retired and current military officers are being investigated for diverting hundreds of millions of dollars budgeted to help curb the Islamic uprising. Among them is Alex Badeh, a four-star general whom Buhari fired from his post as chief of defense staff. Witnesses have told a Federal High Court that Badeh stole the equivalent of $24 million budgeted for salaries in 2013 and built a shopping mall in Abuja, the capital.

Civil society groups are demanding the investigation of the current chief of army staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, for allegedly buying with cash two properties worth $1.5 million in Dubai. Buratai has said he bought the property on installment with savings.

Before Buhari took power, soldiers told the AP they were forced into battle with just 30 bullets each and no food rations. They said Boko Haram was better armed and that their officers were stealing parts of their salaries and allowances. Many ran away when the extremists attacked, allowing Boko Haram to take control of a large swath of northeastern Nigeria in 2014.

Under Buhari, a former military dictator, a multinational force has retaken most towns but Boko Haram remains active outside urban areas, carrying out hit-and-run attacks, suicide bombings and abductions of women and girls.

Pastor Arrested For Keeping Guns For Militants And Robbers In Lagos

Taiwo Jimoh

Pastor of Cherubim and Seraphim Church of Zion at Igando area of Lagos and a mother of seven have been arrested for allegedly keeping guns and preparing food for militants. However, the pastor, who identified himself as Governor Peretun, denied the allegation. According to the police, Peretun used to keep guns for militants.

These militants were part of those who, two months ago, repeatedly invaded Ewedogbon community in Igando area of the state and wreaked havoc on residents. The police said: “The pastor was aiding the militants in pipeline vandalism.

Even the boats, which were used in the Agbara bank robbery operation where a policeman was shot dead, were kept in his custody.” The police said that Peretun was arrested along with a 47-year-old mother of seven, Ebimobe JoJo.

Police said that Jojo was the one cooking for the militants in the Igando creek area. Peretun said that he was once a fisherman but abandoned that trade after the Holy Spirit ‘directed’ him to move into the creek and establish a church there.

The suspect said he was about to board a bus at Iba Bus Stop, heading to Ondo State, when police detectives arrested him. He said: “After I built my church, I opened up the waterways to allow people to start paddling their boats through the routes.

After a while, I started buying fuel from the militants. I used to buy 50 litres for N1,000. I would then resell for N1,500, which was how we became friends. “They used to visit me and I also usually visit them in the creek.

There was a time operatives of Department of State Services (DSS) stormed the creek. I was arrested. After explaining myself to them, I was set free. The DSS men, however, warned me to stop buying from the militants. But I didn’t.”

Stating her own side of the story, JoJo said she used to buy fuel from the militants in the creek.

She added: “I don’t cook food for them, but I used to go with food for them, so that they would sell fuel to me on credit. Anytime I go to buy fuel from the militants, I don’t leave early, to avoid being arrested. When they saw that I used to come with food, they told me to be preparing food for them.

They said they couldn’t come out of the creek.

“Whenever I go to buy fuel from them, the leader of the militants called TK and his boys are always armed with AK47. They also dressed in military uniform; initially I thought they were soldiers.”

The police said that Peretun’s face was captured while he was hiding the militants’ guns. The police added that Jojo’s face was also captured while she was taking food to the militants in the creek. The police said their faces were captured by drone deployed into the coastal area after the militants invaded the community.

New Telegraph had reported that the militants on July 24 invaded Ewedogbon and unleashed terror on the residents. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was shot in the back, while the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), sustained gunshot injury while being chased by militants.

We Switch Off Generators So Owners Will Open Doors — Robbery Suspect

Police in Lagos have arrested two suspects who specialise in switching off power generating sets at midnight to gain easy entry into apartments when the owners come out to inspect the cause of power cut.

The suspects confessed to being responsible for series of operations around Ikorodu area of the state. However, one of them, Isaac Ogbonna, blamed his resort to crime on his inability to raise money for his ailing sister’s medical bill.

The 27-year-old Ogbonna, who lamented that his business folded as a result of the economic recession, said: “I could not stand and watch my elder sister die. I have been living with her since I came back from Enugu, after my business folded up.

“She has been sick and I had donated blood twice, yet the sickness persisted. At first we brought in a nurse who treated her and collected N9,000. But there was no improvement. We had to take her to the hospital where we were told to deposit N20,000.

“I approached one of my friends, Ishola Dede, (pointing to his partner in crime), who assured me that he would help me raise the money because my sister had once shown him kindness.

“He introduced me to two other persons, Ishola and Sadiq, at a drinking joint. Our plan was to attack any house that still has its power generating set on after midnight.

“Last Monday, we stormed a house at Ogolonto; we jumped the fence and put off the power generating set. A man came out with a torch light to inspect what was wrong and we pointed a gun at him and followed him into his apartment.

“We collected laptops, phones and N80,000. As we were about leaving, Sadiq requested for the car keys, but we told him to forget about it since it was not part of the plan.

“Our plan was to raid about 10 houses. But he insisted and went away with the car, saying the amount would cover what we would get in 10 houses.

“Next day, he told us to meet at a hotel and that he had sold the car, unknown to us policemen had traced the car through the tracking device.

“Unfortunately, I was told this morning, after I was arrested, that my sister died a day before. All my efforts have been in vain.”

Man Kidnaps Two Siblings In Lagos, Exchanges Them For 2 Bags Of Rice

LAGOS—An unidentified middle-aged man, Wednesday, abducted two siblings, who were returning from extra-moral class in Satellite area of Lagos. Thereafter, he exchanged them for two bags of rice in a shop at 63, Marwa Road, near Chemist Bus Stop.

The children are aged eight and 13.It was gathered that at the shop, the abductor told the sales girl that he would like to take two bags of rice to the mother of the children, whom he claimed owned a restaurant close-by, to ascertain whether the rice was the brand she needed.

Speaking with Vanguard last night, owner of the shop, Mrs Silverline, explained that “he (the abductor) told my sales girl that the mother of the children needed Indian rice, but my sales girl told him that what we had was Brazilian rice and that it was good.

“Thereafter, he made a phone call to someone he claimed was the mother of the children and at the end said he would like to take the bags of rice to the woman. But my girl insisted on following him to collect the money for the bags (N40,000) should the woman agree to buy them.

“The stranger said he would ride on a motorcycle with the bags of rice, while my girl followed with the children on foot. But on reaching the purported restaurant, the owner said she never saw any one with bags of rice, neither did she admit knowing the children.“

They walked to Ijegun end of Satellite without any sight of the abductor. When we asked the children about him, they said that the abductor was not their father.”

An eyewitness, Ifeoma John, said that immediately the abductor left with the bags ofrice, a man who claimed to be the biological father of thechildren, arrived, alleging thathis children could have been hypnotised by the abductor.

He contacted policemen from Satellite Division, who took everyone involved to thestation, from where the children were released to their parents.
